Safety Operations Control

In Normal Operations, all trains move by Automatic Train Control (ATC), that is under the Automatic Train Operation System (ATO), with a speed limit of 80 km./h. There is also Automatic Train Protection (ATP), which is a system to prevent errors in the train operation and controls the distance between trains to be at a safe distance under control of the CBTC signaling system, which tracks the current position of trains including speed control and calculates the distance between the safest speed ranges.

Safety in trains

The passenger compartment of the train has been designed without sharp edges to prevent any injury that may occur to passengers and incorporates materials that do not produce toxic fumes in the event of a fire. In the event of an emergency such as a train fire, a passenger suddenly becoming ill, or other such emergencies, passengers can report the incident to the train operator by pressing the yellow bell (Passenger Communication Unit) installed at train doors.

Safety on station

The BTS SkyTrain structures are designed and constructed to ensure passenger safety during their journey. All stations are equipped with fire protection systems such as fire extinguishers, fire sprinklers, automatic fire suppression systems using both water and gas. Electrical and lightning protection systems cover the area of all stations. At platforms, there are emergency stop buttons (yellow boxes) to stop the train while entering or leaving the station in an emergency. Moreover, at busy BTS stations half-height platform screen doors (HHPSD) have been installed for safety and to prevent severe emergencies such as a person or object falling onto the track, or a train hitting a person. BTS plans to add HHPSD at other stations of the concession section and in the BMA's first Extension Project, until complete for all stations.
