ASingle Journey ticket is purchased for one-way trip for the selected destination. The fare is for that journey alone and is valid only on the date of issue date (Operating Hours: 06.00 - 24.00 hrs). At the end of the journey, the ticket is retained at the Automatic Exit Gate.
Single Journey Tickets can be purchased at both Ticket Issuing Machines (TIM), Integrated Ticketing Machines (ITM) and Ticket Vending Machines (TVM).

BTS SmartPass is the new type of BTS pass, which uses Contactless Smartcard Technology and contains an electronic chip for data storage. The new BTS Smart Passes provide passengers with a more efficient and convenient service, as passengers only need to tap the card reader with the pass to open an automatic gate. The system also enables future ticket integration with other modes of transport and organizations.
The traveling deposit of 50 Baht on BTS Sky SmartPass (Stored Value SmartPass) is an allowance for passengers ending their journey with a remaining value on their pass that falls below the required fare.
For example: Current Value on Pass: 10 Baht Fare to be paid: 52 Baht
The system will then deduct the additional required fare of 42 Baht from the traveling deposit, resulting in value of 8 Baht on the pass shown on the cardreader display screen at the Automatic Exit Gate.
